So relatable! I’m from Aotearoa New Zealand, raised by my Pākehā (English) mother, with a Māori (indigenous) father. I first reconnected with my father in my late teens, and then started on my language reclamation journey. It has take a long way back but so rewarding, and so healing to look in the mirror and finally be able to embrace my “mixedness” after so long feeling like it was a deficit. My mum has also been on the journey with me, slowly letting go of her own hurts to trust that it’s something I’ve needed to do. Love this post, thank you!
